Mahalaya Paksha 2024 Sankalpam. Mahalaya paksha, or pitru paksha, is a deeply sacred time to remember and honor our ancestors. Pitru paksha, also called mahalaya paksha is the ‘fortnight of the ancestors', a tradition observed by the hindus to pay homage to their ‘pitrs’ or ancestors.
This year, it begins on september 18, 2024, and will culminate. Mahalaya amavasya is observed on the last of the pitr paksha, the ‘fortnight of the ancestors’ and is also the most significant day of this period.
